Only 32% of Americans approve of Israel’s actions in Gaza: Gallup poll

(Antiwar.com) — A new poll from Gallup has found that just 32 percent of Americans approve of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, a 10-percentage point drop from a September 2024 poll and the lowest yet since Gallup first asked the question in November 2023.

The poll, conducted from July 7 to July 21, found 60 percent of Americans disapproved of Israel’s actions in Gaza, an increase from 48 percent in the September 2024 poll.

The poll shows a sharp partisan divide as just 8 percent of Democrats and 25 percent of Independents approve of Israel’s actions in Gaza, while 71 percent of Republicans are supportive of Israel’s campaign.

Gallup also asked if Americans favored Israel’s recent military action against Iran, and only 38 percent said they approved, while 54 percent disapproved. Just 12 percent of Democrats approved the action against Iran, while 78 percent of Republicans were supportive.

The poll found that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s favorability rating was at an all-time low in the U.S., with 52 percent of Americans having an unfavorable view of the Israeli leader. Just 29 percent of Americans said they had a favorable view of Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his role in war crimes in Gaza.

The lack of support from Americans for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza comes as the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory is as bad as ever, and people have begun starving to death in significant numbers due to the U.S.-backed Israeli siege.
