PBS Exploits Independence Day to Trash Trump’s Deportation of Illegal Aliens – RedState

In this episode of “Try to Control Your Shock and Amazement”…

Happy Saturday, gang! I hope you’re doing what millions of others of Americans are doing on this Fourth of July weekend — enjoying time with family and friends in celebration of the greatest country the world has ever seen.

Meanwhile, over at PBS — partially funded by your tax dollars — the usual suspects on Friday tried to exploit Independence Day by blasting President Donald Trump and his administration over the continued repatriation of illegal aliens, which a strong majority of Americans support.

So, yeah — try to control your shock and amazement.

PBS NewsHour” on Friday used the Fourth of July holiday as a concocted opportunity to trash Trump’s enforcement of federal immigration and deportation laws by absurdly suggesting they run counter to American values.

And who other than Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart would have the intestinal fortitude to declare that his viewpoint on the issue of deporting illegals embodies the ideals symbolized by the Statue of Liberty? No, really.

Anyway, host John Yang kicked off the festivities by referencing a recent PBS News/NPR/Marist College poll (emphasis, mine):

With the Fourth of July upon us, it’s a fitting moment to reflect on our nation and its democracy. The poll asked Americans about their attitudes toward welcoming people from around the globe: 64 percent believe it’s essential to our national identity, while 35 percent feel it poses a risk to that identity.

How does this square with what President Trump is doing on immigration and mass deportations?

Oh, please. (See: Set-up, loaded question, anticipated response.) Notice how Yang “forgot” to include “legally,” as in “… welcoming people from around the globe who came to America legally?”

New York Times columnist and political commentator David Brooks (who’s as smug “as the day is long,” as my dad used to say) was up next — eagerly taking Yang’s bait.

It’s the opposite. We have been a country of immigrants for — since we were before a country. And Americans still love pluralism and diversity. I was celebrating Independence Day and the birth of our country yesterday in Milan, but at a Bruce Springsteen concert.

[…]

People were upset at the anarchy in the southern border. But we have never been a country that did not admire people who come here and work hard and make America what it is.

Hold the clown car.

Brooks made that last comment as if it was (or should be) mutually inclusive, meaning if we (conservatives, let’s say) were “upset” about millions of illegals continuing to flow across the border as the Biden-Harris administration continued to all but encourage them to do, then we must also somehow no longer admire people coming to America (legally) in search of a better life, who also seek to contribute to helping make America a better place. That, of course, is nonsense.

PBS Host Capehart Ludicrously Dons Tinfoil Hat, Reveals ‘Rumor’ Behind Trump’s Response to LA Riots

Finally, here’s Capehart’s take:

I was giving a speech at the Adams Institute in Holland during Trump One, and in the middle — in the depth of Trump one, when we were worried about our country.

And my host, we were in a cab heading to the event. And I noticed her lock screen on her phone, the Statue of Liberty. Here’s this Dutch woman with the Statue of Liberty. It’s said to me that America is still a beacon of hope for people around the world. … That’s why people look to the United States because of who we are, because of where we come from.

President Biden always said the United States is the only nation that was formed around an idea. And it’s been successful because that idea is something that people from around the world, they can see themselves in it. And as long as we stay true to that, then, no matter who the president is, we will stay true to our founding and our founding principles, I think.

OK first: Who, exactly, was “we” who were “worried about our country” during Trump’s first term? (The question is rhetorical.)

Second, America remains “a beacon of hope for people around the world” who enter our country legally.

Third, by what measure was Biden’s intentional importation of millions of illegal aliens — many of them, criminals — successful?

Meanwhile, with Trump having signed the formerly-named “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” into law on the Fourth, he continues to roll — and he is doing so because he continues to fulfill the pledges he made throughout his presidential campaign.

And PBS, along with NPR? Please.
