(LifeSiteNews) — Polling has revealed that Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre’s abortion support may cost him his seat in an upcoming by-election.
According to a survey conducted by National Public Research Canada for Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), many Battle River–Crowfoot voters are staunchly pro-life, at the same time as pro-abortion Poilievre attempts to win a seat in the Alberta riding.
“Pierre is out-of-step with the voters on abortion,” said Jeff Gunnarson, national president of Campaign Life Coalition. “The survey results place Poilievre’s stance within the small minority of just under 12% of Battle River-Crowfoot voters who support abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason or no reason at all.”
🚨BREAKING: New poll shows @PierrePoilievre is out of step with the pro-life values of Battle River–Crowfoot.
Nearly 80% of voters oppose his extreme abortion stance.
This is big.

According to the survey results, 79.4 percent of constituents are strongly opposed to the legalization of abortion at different times during pregnancy. Of the 79 percent, 17 percent oppose all abortions, nearly 27 percent oppose abortion except for rape and incest, and 35 percent support banning abortion after the first trimester.
At the same time, only 11.6 percent support Poilievre’s position of unrestricted access to abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. The remaining nine percent are undecided.
Today, Battle River–Crowfoot voters are heading to the polls for a by-election after Poilievre lost his own riding in the April election. In order for Poilievre to stay on as party leader, Alberta MP Damien Kurek resigned his seat to allow Poilievre to take his place.
While Poilievre chose a well-known Conservative riding to run for re-election, he seemed to forget that a core value for many Conservatives is defending the unborn. Indeed, Kurek has previously been “green-lighted” by CLC for his pro-life and pro-family position, one that resonates with local voters.
During his time as Conservative party leader, Poilievre has made it clear that his party supports abortion and will not introduce any legislation to limit the practice.
In April, LifeSiteNews reported that his election platform included a promise to never restrict abortion in Canada, which is currently permitted through all nine months of pregnancy.
In December 2024, Poilievre’s wife Anaida made headlines for championing the couple’s pro-abortion views. Later, in June 2024, he issued a statement promising to never to oppose abortion or homosexual “marriage” after a Conservative MP voiced pro-life and pro-family views during a podcast.
While Poilievre refuses to defend the unborn, CLC has “green-lighted” three other candidates in the Battle River-Crowfoot. These are Jonathan Bridges of the People’s Party, Grant Abraham of the United Party, and Jeff Willerton of the Christian Heritage Party.
“Mr. Poilievre appears to be hoping for a marriage of convenience in this by-election, united to constituents almost solely by their common opposition to Liberals,” stated Gunnarson.
“Will the voters of Battle River-Crowfoot settle for convenience, or will they choose someone who truly represents their values?” he challenged.
