In a breaking story, law enforcement officials in Virginia are saying that a man driving an SUV intentionally plowed his vehicles into a group of protesters gathered on Saturday for “No Kings Day” in Culpeper.
Fox5DC reports that the Culpeper Police Department identified the driver as 21-year-old Joseph R. Checklick Jr.:
CULPEPER, Va. – Police say a driver in an SUV intentionally drove into a crowd of protesters in Culpeper, hitting at least one person.
What we know: Police say Joseph R. Checklick Jr, 21, of Culpeper intentionally accelerated into a crowd of protesters near James Madison Highway Saturday afternoon.
Officials say he struck at least one person with his vehicle.

The organizers of the group Culpeper Democrats claimed that their event drew “more than 600 attendees, over 200 at their Main Street location and over 400 on James Maidson Highway.”
On the police department’s Facebook page, they wrote that:
Based on the preliminary investigation, it was determined that Checklick Jr intentionally accelerated his vehicle into the dispersing crowd, striking at least one person with his vehicle. At this time, no injuries were reported to law enforcement, nor has the person that Checklick Jr struck with his vehicle been identified by law enforcement.
Authorities said after his arrest, Checklick Jr. was charged with reckless driving, and is being held without bond at the Culpeper County Jail, according to Fox5DC.
Culpeper, located about a two hours southwest from Washington, D.C., serves as the Culpeper County seat, between Northern Virginia and the Piedmont region. In the latest census 2020), the city had 21,464 residents.
