Prince Harry reportedly “offered an olive branch” to King Charles during Donald Trump’s UK State Visit last week. Since Harry’s visit to the UK at the start of September, the week before the US President spent two-days with the King, insiders have angrily reponded to claims that the 41-year-old’s meeting wth his dad signalled a “thawing of their relationship”.
Harry, who travelled to the UK for a four-day visit on his own, met with the King in London on the third day of his trip. With Harry having returned to California just days before, Donald and Melania Trump arrived in the UK on September 16.
It has since been reported that Harry promised his dad that he would keep a “low profile” whilst Trump visted the UK.
The olive branch was reportedly offered as a “goodwill gesture” to this father, who he last saw in person back in February 2024.
Sources have since claimed that, following the visit, Harry is keen to see his dad more as well as “make him proud” and be there to “support him” through his ongoing cancer treatment.
Speaking of claims that Harry was hoping to return to royal duties, a source close to Harry said such reports were “put to bed years ago”.
They also added that Harry – who is dad to six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet – is “very happy with his life in California” and is “very happy just visiting the UK as and when to support his patronages and causes”.
Discussing the reason behind Harry’s recent visit back to the UK, a source said: “Harry’s visit to the UK was not about trying to show up or compete with his brother – in fact, the opposite.”
They also told the Daily Mail: “It was to remind William that Harry can be there to take some of the load off, given some of the criticism William has received for carrying out a lower number of engagements than his father.
“That doesn’t need to be as part of the ‘working’ Royal Family. It can just be doing what he loves to do and does best – supporting causes close to them both, such as the Diana Award and conservation.”
