Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not spent Christmas with the Royal Family since 2018, however it seems that when they did, they thoroughly enjoyed it. While Harry, before quitting royal life in 2020, was always used to such big family events, it seemed that Meghan wasn’t.
This was hinted at by Harry when he discussed what Christmas at Sandringham had been like for Meghan when he appeared on an episode of the BBC Radio 4 Today programme just days after Meghan’s first festive season with his royal relatives. Speaking about the day’s festivities, Harry said: “She’s (Meghan) done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there and it’s the family I suppose that she never had.”
The prince also said that Christmas was “fantastic” and that his royal relatives “loved” having Meghan as part of the celebrations.
While the comment about the royals being like the family Meghan “never had” may have been made innocently, it provoked backlash from Meghan’s family, especially her half-sister Samantha Grant.
As reported by The Daily Mail, Meghan’s half-sister took to X after the comment was made, writing: “Our household was very normal and when dad and Doria divorced, we all made it so it was like she had two houses. No one was estranged, she was just too busy. She always had this family, Marrying merely extends it.”
Samantha then went on to talk about the issue on the Channel 5 documentary Meghan and the Markles: A Family at War. She said: “Though we weren’t the classic family together on schedule for every holiday, we were family.”
