Star Tribune Washington reporter Sydney Kashiwagi reported in the paper’s March 17 Morning Hot Dish newsletter:

Zeroing in on Omar once again. Trump especially fixated on Omar during his announcement [of a fraud task force], elevating the unproven claim that she married her brother and committed immigration fraud and is thus “here illegally and she’s a congresswoman.” Trump urged Vance and members of the task force to look into the allegations.

Omar clapped back at Trump’s remarks. She said on X that “the most disturbing part of his unhinged comments is how comfortable he is in telling the world how stupid he and his followers are.”

“But I guess it’s expected from a man who regularly and publicly fantasized about sleeping with his own daughter and is clearly implicated in the worst pedophile coverup case,” Omar continued.

Kashiwagi is merely regurgitating the obligatory “fact-check” version of the story according to Omar while taking the occasion to publicize Omar’s Trump trash talk.

Here’s the funny thing. In 2019 the Star Tribune published a 3,000 word page-one story — the most-read Star Tribune story of 2019 — revisiting the issue of Omar’s marriage to her brother. The story drew on documents that had just been released by the state board of campaign finance in its investigation of her 2016 campaign and other social media material we had reported on Power Line.

In my view, the 2019 story proves far beyond a preponderance of the evidence that Omar married her brother for some fraudulent purpose. I think I could persuade a jury of it based on the evidence in the Star Tribune story, though there is much more for anyone inclined to look. The Star Tribune story by itself is full of evidence tending to prove that Omar married her brother. I wonder if Kashiwagi is familiar with the story published by her own paper.

The Star Tribune reporters who wrote the story asked Omar for an interview and for access to her family to discuss the issue, but she wasn’t talking. These left-wing reporters for a left-wing newspaper all but begged Omar for a response.

This was the resposne they received courtesy of Omar. “Whether by colluding with right-wing outlets to go after Muslim elected officials or hounding family members, legitimate media outlets have a responsibility not to fan the flames of hate,” her spokesman told the paper. “Continuing to do so is not only demeaning to Ilhan, but to her entire family.” You see, the Star Tribune reporters were bigots in cahoots with us.

Most recently, I went back over the case in the Free Beacon column “Yes, Ilhan Omar married her brother.” Omar’s denial that the guy she married in 2009 under the auspices of a Christian pastor is her brother is evidence too, but it conflicts with the record and is indeed the only evidence to the contrary. You be the judge!
