Vladimir Putin’s right-hand man has sent a chilling World War 3 warning to Britain as fears over a global conflict soar to worrying new levels. Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov delivered the shocking remarks at an ambassadors roundtable, calling any future peacekeepers “legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces”.
He said: “They are still drumming up the conflict by establishing the so-called Coalition of the Willing’, by increasing their military expenditure and trying to save their own political future. They are ramping up Russia‘s care, promote the ideas of a Russian attack in the future.
“They are still having and harboring fantasies of sending their own military troops to Ukraine as so-called peacekeepers.
“But these so-called peacekeepers would immediately become legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces. The Europeans must understand that.”
Lavrov’s comments came as Sir Keir Starmer announced he would co-chair a Coalition of the Willing call with Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz.
Downing Street said European leaders are at a “critical moment” in the ongoing peace negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
A No.10 spokesperson said: “Intensive work on the peace plan is continuing and will continue in the coming days.”
The Ukrainian president also expressed hope that peace talks could be nearing a close following discussions between his delegation and the US.
He said: “This week may bring news for all of us – and for bringing the bloodshed to an end.”
