Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be getting ready for another festive season in the Californian sunshine this year with their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. While it is believed the family love Christmas at their Montecito mansion, where they have lived since 2020, it is very different to the royal Christmases Prince Harry enjoyed growing up.
For much of his life, Harry spent the Christmas period at Sandringham with the Royal Family, enjoying traditions that have been in place for many years. However, he had not spent the season with his relatives since 2018, as the Sussexes spent Christmas of 2019 in Canada.
While it is not known for certain whether this will ever change, royal insider Paul Burrell believes an invitation with Harry and Meghan’s names on it will never be on the cards.
According to the former royal butler and close friend of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, the pair “cannot be trusted to keep what happens at Sandringham a secret”.
While the royal festivities are unlikely to be highly confidential for any one reason, it is still a private family time when the royals can enjoy being together without being in the spotlight.
As a result of Harry and Meghan having shared intimate details of private family conversations and events before, it is unlikely the royals will want to welcome them back into the fold for Christmas again.
Speaking on behalf of Casino.org about the couple’s futures at Sandringham, Paul Burrell said: “That will never happen. I’ve always said it, and I’ll say it again: it will never happen.”
He continued: “And the reason is simple—you have to consider the dynamics of everyone living under one roof.
“If you were to inject Harry and Meghan into that mix, into that very particular “soup” of royalty, it would become a complete disaster.
“The family get along because they understand one another, and they understand the routines and traditions that shape those Christmases. Meghan clearly doesn’t, and she wouldn’t fit in. And beyond that, her presence would make everyone else uncomfortable as well.
“Harry himself would have an awful time. There’s simply no place for them at Sandringham anymore—there never will be, not even when William becomes king. They simply cannot be trusted to keep what happens at Sandringham a secret.”
