As the crisis rages in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with no relief in sight, I offer my proposed solution to ending the mayhem.
As John points out, none of this unrest is occurring anywhere else in America, or any other city, other than Minneapolis.
Gov. Tim Walz has proposed as a comprise solution that all federal law enforcement should leave the state, immediately, so that no federal laws will be enforced. In exchange, Walz is willing to continue accepting tens-of-billions of dollars in federal taxpayer money, which he will happily forward to the fraudsters bankrolling the Democratic party in the state.
My counter-offer would have the feds come in and run key state and local institutions until order can be restored.
As for mayhem in the streets, I would federalize (deputize) all Minneapolis police officers as federal officers and have them on crowd control duty as FBI, BP, and ICE agents and others go about their work.
I would have federal prison authorities take over operation of the Hennepin County jail, for the narrow purpose of honoring ICE detainers for the handover of wanted illegal aliens held in custody.
I would have officials from the U.S. Dept. of Treasury take over operations of the Minnesota state treasury. No payments would go out unless verified as compensation for real goods and services provided by bona fide suppliers and vendors. Of course, this is what was supposed to have happened federally with DOGE, but never did.
I believe doing just those three things would solve about 90 percent of the problem.
Of course this plan could not work. Before you could even begin, the state would run to federal court and get pre-emptive rulings by the local, Democrat-appointed federal judges.
Everyone understands that many billions in fraud have already gone out the door, but federal judges rule time and again that the money must continue flowing, no matter what, with no accountability.
Despite reporting to the contrary, the Trump Administration is scrupulous (to a fault) in following all judicial opinions. Even if no one else is willing to do so, they play by the rules, appealing each decision and waiting for an eventual favorable result.
It’s a suicide pact.
Many commentators on social media say that Minnesota should just be abandoned and left to its own devices. Obviously, I disagree.
You can abandon the streets to the rioters but you are then obligated to keep funding the enterprise with no scrutiny.
And then, where do you draw the line, next? Other blue states will quickly conclude that they, too, can have their own immigration laws and unlimited federal funding.
Where does it end?
