Reform’s prison tsar rages ‘I am not going woke’ as she faces GB News grilling over controversial trans remarks

Nigel Farage’s new prison tsar Vanessa Frake has snapped back at claims she is “going woke”.

Frake spoke to GB News about controversy sparked by her suggestion that trans women should be judged on a case by case basis with regard to female prisons.

The former Wormwood Scrubs prison governor told Martin Daubney: “I am not going woke.

“Is treating people with humanity woke? What if it was your daughter or your son?

Frake said Farage was aware of her position before handing her the role

“I am incredibly disappointed that I have been so misconstrued. I have never suggested that I would ever put any at risk into the general population and nor did I ever suggest that a prisoner that is a risk to other prisoners into the general population.

“There are many complex, bespoke risk prisoners and risk assessments which are completed by skilled, experienced prison staff on a case by case basis which is the way forward at the end of the day.

“We are talking about 0.3 per cent of the prison population, I am focusing on the other 99.7 per cent.

“I have worked with female offenders, I have seen the abuse that they have suffered and I would never, ever put a female offender in a position that brought back any angst or worry or concern to a female prisoner. Can I make that perfectly clear?”

Martin pushed Frake to clarify whether a biological man who now claims to be a woman should be allowed into a female prison estate if they have a history of sex offending.

“That is absolutely crystal clear my position”, she said.

Asked what kind of biological men who now identify as women would be allowed into a female jail, she said: “Once you’ve got a complete trans woman who has completely transitioned to a female and has been living as a female for 30 years, what are you now telling me?

“That we put them into the general population in the male estate? To me, that isn’t humane.

“It is not counting decency. I’m not saying that person should be a female in the female estate. This is a minefield. Whichever way you look at it, whichever way you swing, whichever thoughts you have, it’s a minefield and it’s always going to be difficult.”

Frake admitted she “doesn’t know” if her idea is official Reform UK policy, but she said Nigel Farage was aware of her position before appointing her.
