Republicans Clobber Democrats | Power Line

I was at a business dinner in Texas last night, in a restaurant that had multiple screens displaying various sports events. One of them was tuned to the annual Republican-Democrat baseball game. Our group of conservatives cheered the GOP team as they annihilated the Democrats 13-2, winning for the fifth straight year. The game raised a record amount for charity, as 30,000 tickets were sold.

The Democrat team was shockingly bad. Before the game, one of the Democrats was asked whether he expected his team to win. He responded, “No.” The play of the game was made by Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), after the Dems loaded the bases in the first inning:

From there, it was all downhill for the Democrats, who could neither pitch, hit, nor field.

It was good to see Steve Scalise on the field, eight years after he nearly died from being shot by a Democrat while practicing for the game. Joni Ernst was the only woman I saw on either team. She entered the game as a pinch runner and scored from second on a single, not looking at all out of place.

One hesitates to attach symbolic value to a charity sports event, but last night’s game does seem to be emblematic of how things are going in the political world.
