Serial killer Rose West has allegedly groomed and sexually assaulted a “vulnerable” young inmate in her cell, according to reports. Prison staff acted swiftly to the incident, and the 74 year old was summoned before a governor.
After the offence at New Hall women’s prison near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, prison bosses have sanctioned her and stripped her privileges, leaving even seasoned prisoners appalled.
The infamous convict was handed a life sentence in 1995 for the murders of ten women and girls with her husband Fred. Prison insiders suggest she continues to be “extremely dangerous” despite appearing as “looking like a frail pensioner.”
According to a source, West developed a connection with her victim, believed to be in her 20s, and “basically groomed her” before the alarming assault.
The insider said: “She befriended a young girl, in her 20s, and basically groomed her before the attack.
“Her victim is vulnerable and West took advantage of her before trying to force herself on her.
“The whole prison is talking about it and inmates are shocked, despite what they might have done themselves. It is pretty disgusting she had the freedom to do something like this in the first place,” reports The Sun.
West lives in Rivendell House with 15 other inmates, a specialist unit accommodating women with personality disorders or enhanced status. Each inmate has their own ensuite cell.
According to inspectors, the shared areas are more inviting than those found in other prison wings. She resides in an accessible ground-floor cell and remains under round-the-clock officer surveillance due to fears over possible assaults.
West allegedly has a pattern of trying to cultivate relationships with younger female inmates and supposedly provides help with activities like preparing meals and needlework.
Earlier accounts suggested that West pushes Christmas cards beneath other prisoners’ doors in attempts to build connections. She also hands out sweet boxes bought from the prison shop to chosen recipients.
She is portrayed as currently being overweight with silver hair, though she still sports her distinctive thick-framed spectacles. In 2020, she officially altered her name to Jennifer Jones, but her real identity continues to be recognised throughout the facility, according to sources.
Fred West was charged with 12 killings but took his own life in custody in 1995 aged 53, before his trial commenced. Rose West is presently serving a whole-life term for 10 murders.
