Rubio Lights Up Dems During Venezuela Hearing As Protester Goes Down to Brutal Defeat – RedState

Secretary of State Marco Rubio certainly has shown how talented he is at the job.

He seems to have played a big part in a lot of the deals that the Trump team has pulled off.

He’s also been very skilled at laying out the Trump agenda and showing its worth, including while testifying before Congress.

Rubio was testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday. He laid out the progress that had been happening in Venezuela because of the U.S. pressure.

This is competence:

He outlined the threat that there had been because of the involvement of our opponents in the South American country, and how much better off we are now. He showed how his job is supposed to be done. If you compare this to the prior Biden team’s competence, or more exactly, the lack thereof, it’s pretty stunning.

While Rubio was at it, he ran rings around the Democrats, including giving quite a schooling to Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL). He was even complimented by his great friend, Vice President JD Vance, for how he dealt with her questions.

“Watching Tammy Duckworth obsessively interrupt Marco Rubio during this hearing is like watching Forest Gump argue with Isaac Newton!” Vance said. That sounds about right.

Rubio also leveled Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI), who asked if we were going to promote regime change in Cuba.

Rubio pointed out how the Helms-Burton Act has codified that we’re trying to promote a different form of government in Cuba. That’s the purpose of the boycott we’ve had for decades. So Rubio can’t commit to not doing what we’ve been doing for years, and that’s required by the Act.

Then there was this truly funny moment when a protester stood up with a sign and didn’t even last fifteen seconds. Committee Chair Jim Risch (ID) delivered a great response. You can see Rubio grinning.

“Here we go! You know the drill. Off to jail!” Risch said, explaining that protesters faced a one-year ban from the Committee for a first-time offense and a three-year ban if they were repeat offenders. Risch then joked with Rubio about the “robust following” he got out to protest him. Rubio joked back that he expected more.
