There’s a running joke about all the jobs that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has had to take on in the Trump administration.
It looks like Rubio took on yet another one while he was speaking at the Shield of the Americas meeting in Florida—with President Donald Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth—to Latin American leaders.
He started in English, and then he basically reiterated the points he had made in Spanish, saying he thought he was a “good interpreter” for himself, adding an aside to the president, “You’ll find out in a second.” Trump responded with a broad grin, and clearly was proud of Rubio’s ability. The clip has now gone viral.

Rubio thanked the 12 countries that were there. He said Trump has made the region a priority. Many presidents say they are going to do it, Rubio asserted, but Trump has done it.
“These are countries that are not just allies; they are friends. They are countries that always respond when there is a need and work together with us, and there is still much to be done. These are countries with large populations and great potential, and we want to be their partners in developing their nations, their economies, and their security,” he added.
“Thank you very much for being here with us. May God bless all of your countries, the United States, and thank you as always for the cooperation. We will continue to work together, and we are going to achieve very good, very important things for this region. Future generations will be grateful for the work we are doing,” he concluded.
Trump had fun with it, asking if Rubio was “better in Spanish or English,” and teasing that he was “better in Spanish.”

Trump said the administration is in negotiations with Cuban leaders. He made a very important comment that Cuba, as it has been, is “at the end of the line.”
CHANGE IS COMING TO CUBA
President Donald Trump says Cuba’s communist regime is at the end of the line after decades of economic failure and dependence on outside support that has now dried up. For generations the Cuban people have lived under a system that crushed opportunity,… pic.twitter.com/gcuAeWXrkk

Trump also joked about Rubio’s work ethic.
“What are you going to do, Marco? Take two days off?” Trump asked Rubio in a relaxed tone. “No, maybe an hour. He’ll take an hour off and then finish up a deal on Cuba. It’ll be an easy one,” he added while laughing.
If Sec. Rubio can pull off Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba, he will have pulled off an incredible achievement against all the enemies/threats to the United States, changed the nature of the globe, and greatly improved our security for the future.
Lol, Marco just signed HIMSELF up for another job! 🤣👍🏻🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/9XMRbHsGvo
