Ukraine launched a barrage of at least 287 drones across a number of regions in Russia, including Moscow. At least 40 drones were downed over Moscow, Russia’s defence ministry said, causing flights to be diverted from all of its main airports.
Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports introduced flight restrictions amid the strike, Russia‘s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) confirmed. Emergency crews worked to clear debris, but no casualties or damage have been reported.
Explosions were reported in the suburbs of Russia’s capital, the Russian Telegram news channel Shot said.
Overnight into December 11, Russia retaliated by sending ballistic missiles and Shahed drones to Kremenchuk in Poltava Oblast, hitting energy infrastructure and causing fires at power facilities.
Regional Governor Volodymyr Kohut confirmed the direct impacts and widespread blackouts, although no fatalities had been reported by morning.
This comes as Ukraine also used drones to target Russia’s shadow fleet – ships used to circumvent economic sanctions imposed by the West.
Sea Baby naval drones hit the tanker Dashan in the Black Sea on December 10, causing critical explosions in the stern.
The ship has already been sanctioned by the EU, UK, Canada, Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand for transporting Russian oil with its transponder deliberately disabled.
The SBU assessed the ship as out of service, making it the third shadow-fleet tanker disabled in the past two weeks, following strikes on Kairos and Virat.
