Ukraine’s army has destroyed part of a major Russian dam, in a huge blow for Putin’s army. Drone strikes damaged the dam at the Belgorod Reservoir, located north of the Ukrainian border, leading to the outflow of a significant amount of water.
The dam was hit overnight, and by the morning, the reservoir’s level had already dropped by one metre. The water from the reservoir has flooded Russian positions and has cut off troops who had crossed the Seversky Donets River near the Ukrainian town of Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast. Near the village of Grafovka and downstream from the river, Russian dugouts were reported to be flooded.
More worryingly for the Russians, units from the 128th, 116th, 68th, and 136th brigades have been cut off across the river.
The stranded Russian units on the Ukrainian side of the river have been left without secure supply lines or reinforcements and are now exposed to a counterattack by Kyiv’s forces.
“The main thing is that the enemy’s logistics have become significantly more complicated,” Ukraine’s 16th Army Corps said on Sunday.
“The leaves have fallen too. So the units that managed to cross the Seversky Donets have effectively been cut off from their main forces.”
The dam’s flooding has also affected civilian settlements on the Russian side of the border. Local authorities confirmed ten villages in the Shebekino area had been affected and that evacuations of local residents were under way.
It comes as Ukraine‘s military claimed Russian forces had lost 800 soldiers on Sunday and that air defence units had shot down 547 UAVs over the country.
This brings the number of casualties suffered by Putin’s army to a horrific 1,137,690, according to data from Ukraine‘s General Staff.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian units repelled a concerted Russian attack in the Donetsk region over the weekend, inflicting even more casualties.
Fighters from the Phoenix unit destroyed 14 pieces of Russian heavy armoured vehicles, including a tank. They also wiped out about 50 Russian soldiers during the fierce battle on Ukraine‘s eastern front.
Russian forces continue to advance on the crucial Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk in the Donbas, where intense fighting has raged for over a year.
Latest reports say that about 200 Russian soldiers have penetrated inside the front-line city, a key logistics and transport hub for Kyiv’s military on its eastern axis.
