An F-16 fighter jet has reportedly crashed near Trona Airport in San Bernardino County, California.
San Bernardino County Fire said: “TRONA: #SBCoFD resources from Station 57 responding to a reported aircraft emergency with @NAWS_CL and @ChinaLake_EM near the San Bernardino/Inyo County line area.”
Unconfirmed social media accounts suggest an F-16 fighter jet crashed “onto a dry lake bed near Trona”, with locals reporting hearing a “really loud boom”.
The San Bernardino Fire Department told ABC News that the fighter jet pilot sustained “moderate injuries” in the crash.
An image from the scene showed black smoke billowing into the California sky shortly after 7pm UK time (11am in LA).
Online testimonies also said an ambulance was heard heading to the scene earlier this evening, reportedly towards the southern end of Trona Airport.
