Saving democracy

The Democratic primary for New York City may9r is in exactly one week (Tuesday, June 24) and the also-ran candidates are ramping up the political stunts. From the New York Post,

NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander arrested by ICE agents in chaotic scene at immigration court.

Apparently, Lander was trying to physically prevent the arrest by ICE of an illegal immigrant.

According to polls, Lander is running third in the primary, behind disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo (really?) and Bernie Sanders-endorsed, avowed socialist, aspiring rapper, and state assemblyman Zohran Kwame Mamdami, of Queens, age 33. Of Indian ethnicity, Mamdami holds dual Ugandan and American citizenship and attended Bowdoin.

Unfortunately, the Penguin was not available for a run this year.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams is running for re-election as an independent. The City of New York uses the idiotic rank-choice-voting method for primary elections.

So, consider the ICE stunt by Lander to be a hail-Mary-pass for his flagging campaign.
