U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has floated the idea of a mandatory national digital ID for British citizens. The BBC reports,
Starmer says people will not be able to work in UK without digital ID.
Starmer touts the idea as a way of combatting illegal immigrants in the workforce. Here in America, we supposedly have measures to “verify” eligibility to work. But we see examples (Iowa, Minnesota) of illegal aliens occupying the highest ranks of government bureaucracies, regardless.
Like every other government scheme, Digital ID will not do the promised job but will instead be weaponized against the otherwise law abiding.
Consider “Real ID.” Enacted in 2005 as an anti-terrorist/anti-illegal-alien measure, it does nothing to deter either group. During the recent southern border crisis, you will have seen reports of illegal aliens boarding airplanes with nothing more than a literal piece of paper issued by border patrol.
These mandatory security measures only apply on those occasions when government wants them to apply, and they only apply to you.
