It’s been quite something to see the Democrats imploding with the viral moments from confrontations with ICE.
First was Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) moving to the front of the room and loudly interrupting DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s press briefing, when no one knew who he was.
Then there was the NYC Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander linking arms with a man while federal agents were trying to detain him. NY Gov. Kathy Hochul even said the Empire State will provide $50 million for legal services for people federal agents detain outside the court.
Padilla is still whining, days later, now because Vice President JD Vance called him out on the “theater” of it all, but also referred to him as “Jose Padilla.”

Political commentator Scott Jennings was back from Israel and loaded for bear on CNN. He let the “theater kids” have it. He was asked if Democrats are “emotional,” putting themselves “in between” ICE and “immigrants.” Did he think it was “political theater,” and that they want the public to see them out doing stuff like this? Jennings nuked them in response.

“I agree with some of that. I agree they are emotional. And the last part. They do want the public to see,” Jennings said.
What they’re doing is clearly creating stunts. These are political stunts…This is sort of like porn for their base. There’s a lot of capital right now in the Democratic Party for getting arrested. In the case of Padilla, who if you handed me $10 million right now if I could pick him out of a line-up, I don’t think I could do it.
Jennings said if Padilla wanted a meeting with Noem, “he could have had one.” She said Padilla never contacted her. As Jennings observed, Noem did give him a short meeting after the incident.
He explained the craziness of what the Democrats were doing to protect the illegal alien population, which he termed “baffling.” “But more than anything, the theater kids have taken over. They are desperate to create theater, and that’s all it is,” he explained.
Boy, if that isn’t the perfect line for where the Democratic Party is right now, “The theater kids have taken over.”
This is one of the reasons they’re in so much trouble. They’re not focused on the solutions that matter to the American people. They’re looking to the viral moment to yell about the Trump administration. After 10 years of demonizing Trump, it gets a bit old. They don’t seem to get that while it might appeal to the most extreme left-wing part of their party, it doesn’t appeal to anyone else who sees them standing against the enforcement of the law and inexplicably embracing illegal aliens. It doesn’t appeal to the people they would need to appeal to in 2026.
But they keep embracing the tactic, despite it being a loser.
