Scottie Scheffler may be one of the best golfers in the world, but even he found himself humbled by the rigours of Oakmont Country Club by the end of the US Open on Sunday.
Scheffler won the PGA Championship earlier this year and is a three-time major champion, but he finished the US Open at +4 and languished down in joint seventh place.
He ended up five shots behind winner J.J. Spaun, who was the only player to finish the course under par, with second place Robert McIntyre ending the week with a +1 score.
Scheffler spoke following his final round and opened up on his struggles on what seems to be in contention for the toughest venue of 2025.

“I felt like I did some good things out there. A few more putts drop today, I think it’s a little different story,” Scheffler SAID.
“My first three days, I felt like I was battling the whole time. Today, I hit some shots. I hit some putts that I really thought were going in, hit some lips. It was just challenging. I was just right on the edge today. I battled as hard as I did this week.”

Other top names struggled throughout the US Open as well. Bryson DeChambeau was cut and did not make it through after struggling on the course and falling to +10.
Rory McIlroy had finished no worse than ninth in his previous six US Opens, but said early in the week he didn’t care if he was on the cut line.
“I alluded to it in my pre-tournament press conference, you don’t really know how it’s going to affect you,” he said. “You don’t know how you’re going to react to something that I’ve dreamt about for a long time. I alluded to the fact that, yeah, I have felt a little flat on the golf course afterwards.

“It’s funny, like it’s much easier being on the cut line when you don’t really care if you’re here for the weekend or not. I was sort of thinking, ‘do I really want two more days here or not?’. So it makes it easier to play better when you’re in that mindset.”
The Briton ended up finishing tied 19th after another disappointing performance, continuing his poor run of form following his Masters win.
