Sean Duffy Just Got a New Job That Is Out of This World – RedState

President Trump clearly isn’t afraid to load up his Cabinet members with multiple jobs within his administration in order to get things done. First, it was Secretary of State Marco Rubio taking on the additional roles of acting USAID administrator, acting archivist of the United States and interim national security advisor. And, now, it’s Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy putting on the hat as interim administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The president took to Truth Social on Wednesday evening to make the announcement, proving once again that news can be broken at any time, day or night. And Duffy was quick to accept the new gig.

The president’s full statement:

I am pleased to announce that I am directing our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, to be Interim Administrator of NASA. Sean is doing a TREMENDOUS job in handling our Country’s Transportation Affairs, including creating a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control systems, while at the same time rebuilding our roads and bridges, making them efficient, and beautiful, again. He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time. Congratulations, and thank you, Sean!

Duffy has had an eventful six months—and a lot of on-the-job training—since taking over at Transportation back in January. A mere one day into his tenure, he faced dealing with the aftermath of the crash of an Army Blackhawk helicopter and a commercial airliner over the Potomac River, just short of the runway at Washington Reagan National Airport. He was thrust in front of the cameras that tragic night, and really hasn’t slowed down since.

One of the more recognizable faces of the Trump administration, Duffy has been dogged in slashing wasteful spending at the Department of Transportation, reigning in onerous regulations, improving road safety, expanding air-traffic controller capacity, and restoring the American public’s confidence in air travel.

Sean Duffy’s Brilliant War on Pete Buttigieg

The appointment of the new NASA administrator has been a bit of a flashpoint for the second Trump administration. Jared Isaacman, an ally of Elon Musk, was originally nominated by Trump for the position, but the president pulled that nomination “after a thorough review of [Isaacman’s] prior associations.” Some think that’s what led, at least in part, to the public breakdown of the relationship between Trump and Musk.

Meanwhile, CBS News reports that NASA has no comment on the future of Janet Petro, former director at the Kennedy Space Center, who had been in the role of acting administrator since January 20, following the resignation of Biden appointee Bill Nelson.

It makes a certain amount of sense to tack on space exploration, even if it’s just temporarily, to Duffy’s more earthbound duties. And it sure seems like the Duffy family is excited about the new gig.
