Second ‘hokey cokey’ migrant deported again in latest Home Office farce | Politics | News

One of the ‘hokey cokey migrants’ who crossed the Channel for a second time after being returned to France has been deported.

The failed asylum seeker was originally removed from the UK on October 16 and returned on November 8.

And he was finally booted out this morning, as critics continue to claim the “one-in-one-out” deal with Emmanuel Macron is failing to deter Channel migrant crossings.

Some 153 migrants have been returned to France, with the UK accepting 134.

Minister for Border Security and Asylum Alex Norris said: “We are reforming our immigration system, making it easier to remove and deport illegal migrants with no right to be here.

“Our landmark one-in one-out scheme means we can now send those who arrive on small boats back to France.

“In this case the system worked and this individual was detected by biometrics and detained instantly. He has now been removed again, having wasted his time and money.

“Our message is clear: if you try to return to the UK you will be sent back.”

His arrival came less than a week after an Iranian man, the first “hokey cokey” migrant, was finally sent back over the Channel having returned on a small boat a month after he was originally deported.

Migrants removed under scheme are trying to cross the Channel again because the French are refusing to house them, according their lawyers claim.

Charities said there were several migrants removed under the scheme who are now understood to be back in camps near Calais.

Many of those being deported are also barred from claiming asylum in France.

But Paris is struggling to deport them, under the Dublin Agreement, because they are claiming to have suffered from police brutality in other EU countries.
