A man has been seriously injured in a Huddersfield drive-by shooting. West Yorkshire Police were called to Springwood Hall Gardens on Thursday (November 20) following reports of shots being fired at around 5.35pm. A 27-year-old man was found with a serious leg injury and more minor injuries to his back in a car on a driveway.
The leg injury was caused by a bladed weapon, investigations at the hospital concluded, while he had also suffered pellet wounds to his back after the man’s car was shot at. Police believe two men were involved in the attack and that they fled the scene in a black car driven by a third person. A police spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in an attack in which a firearm was discharged in Huddersfield.
“The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) would like to speak to anyone who can assist enquiries into an incident on Springwood Hall Gardens during the evening of Thursday 20 November,” the spokesperson added, according to YorkshireLive.
“Police were called to the location at about 5.35pm to a report of a possible firearms discharge in the street.
“Officers attended and located a car on a driveway with an injured 27-year-old man inside. The victim had suffered a serious leg injury and more minor injuries to his back.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment where it was determined the leg injury, which is not being treated as life threatening, had been caused by a bladed weapon.
“Further investigation confirmed the damage to the car had been caused by a firearms discharge, and the male’s back injuries were pellet wounds. Two male suspects are believed to have been involved in the assault and fled the scene in a black car driven by a 3rd person.”
Detective Inspector Tom Hilyer of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the investigation, said: “Any incident in which firearms are discharged in our communities is treated with the utmost seriousness, and I can promise residents a full investigation into what took place is underway.
“In this instance, it appears a firearm was discharged with suspects then assaulting the victim inside his car with a bladed weapon before making off.
“This has clearly been a very violent, targeted, incident and it is important persons prepared to behave in such a lawless way are brought to justice as quickly as possible. From enquiries, we do think there were potential witnesses present in the street at the time of the shooting, and we would ask them, or anyone who has relevant footage or information which could assist enquiries, to contact us.”
