No matter what side of the political aisle one stands on, the glimpses we got of the kickoff to the high-stakes summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were images that should make Americans proud, and hopeful that the blueprint to peace between Russia and Ukraine can be successfully negotiated.
As we reported, the U.S. military flyover as the two world leaders walked side by side down the red carpet laid on the tarmac of Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska was an especially epic thing to watch unfold, a not-so-subtle reminder to Putin not just of American strength and determination but also as to whose soil on which he was standing.
“That was a made-for-television moment seeing [Trump] walk down one red carpet, greeting Putin, walking down another red carpet, and then getting in to the presidential limo…” anti-Trump ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl begrudgingly admitted. “He sees this … he has brought the Russian president to American soil. This is a home game for Donald Trump. He has brought him to American land.”
