The State Department issued an urgent bulletin Saturday, saying a Hamas attack on “the people of Gaza” is imminent and that undefined “measures” will be taken by the “United States and the other guarantors” to protect the safety of civilians.
The United States has informed the guarantor nations of the Gaza peace agreement of credible reports indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas against the people of Gaza.
This planned attack against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts. The guarantors demand Hamas uphold its obligations under the ceasefire terms.
Should Hamas proceed with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.
The United States and the other guarantors remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining calm on the ground, and advancing peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the region as a whole.
The bulletin isn’t specific, but I don’t think it takes a genius to figure it out. Hamas has no intention of either disarming or ceding power in Gaza. In fact, Hamas is in the process of eliminating clan-based political activists who’d probably trusted the US and other nations to live up to the commitment in President Trump’s Twenty-Point Peace Plan. In fact, the current picture is even worse than the one I painted on Friday. On Friday, the Hamas government in Qatar was saying it wasn’t sure what “disarming” meant. Now they are saying outright that they will not give up their weapons, and the war goes on.

Hamas has executed over 100 people, whom they have labeled as pro-Israel collaborators, which actually means they were possible rivals for governing Gaza. The hospitals in Gaza, you know, the ones that Israel destroyed, have been turned into torture and detention centers.

There are some interesting side stories here. The biggest one is that Hamas is no longer allied with the Palestinian Authority.
