Strava is rolling out a significant redesign to its 120 million users worldwide …but iPhone owners will need to wait a little longer than their Android counterparts. While the major update started to roll-out to Android users on July 16, it won’t ship on iOS until later this summer.
The update lets Strava users view the map and live statistics on the same screen, simplifying the current interface. You’ll be able to check your current pace, workout time, and total distance without toggling between screens.
Strava will show your position on the map in real-time as you move.
This redesign follows Strava’s finding that nearly three out of four athletes use the mobile app to record their activities, despite the popularity of smartwatches and other wearables, which can kickstart a workout on Strava from your wrist.

Strava has redesigned the Record interface in its popular workout app, reducing the need to toggle between multiple screens to check your distance, real-time location, splits, and more
Real-time splits, which show changes to your pace, speed, and elevation, update as you move on a workout, helping you understand exactly how long it’ll take to complete a specific distance during your workout. Strava says this will “help facilitate smarter training” by providing immediate feedback on your pace.
The refreshed app design also makes it easier to locate, follow, and compete with other Strava users on Segments, a feature that creates custom routes, like challenging hills or scenic trails. You can even compete with yourself by challenging your records.
Live Laps — coming later this year — lets you mark and analyse specific intervals during your workouts.
Here’s the full list of everything coming to the Strava update on Android and iOS:
- Enhanced Navigation: The updated Record experience is now powered by the recently updated Map Rendering Engine (MRE). This new MRE brings an enhanced level of detail to Strava’s map and routing experience
- Segments: It’s now easier than ever to find, follow, and compete on Segments. Subscribers can chase best efforts on Live Segments and see their progress in real-time
- Map + Stats, Together: No more switching between screens during your workout. Users can now easily view stats and their map simultaneously while in motion
- Real-time Splits: Splits help users understand the time it takes to complete a specific distance during their workout. Now, users can see their workout Splits update in real-time as they move to help facilitate smarter training
- Live Laps: Soon, Laps will be added to the Record feature. This will allow users to track and analyze activities by marking laps at specific distances or intervals during a workout.
The streamlined interface simplifies sport selection and navigation, keeping everything accessible in one place on your mobile device. All sports supported on Strava include:

If you subscribe to Strava, you’ll enjoy some additional features in the redesigned app, like a new Winter Map styles, 3D Terrain, and Heatmaps. These layers provide additional information to help prepare your training, like enhanced route planning, activity visualisation, and understanding of terrain and points of interest.
If you’re new to the platform and want to benefit from these new features, there’s a new Strava + Runna subscription that costs £119.99 annually — a £50 saving compared to buying both separately.
However, there’s no monthly option, so you’ll need to commit to the full amount immediately.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
This comes after Strava acquired Runna in April for an undisclosed sum. Runna is a UK‑based AI‑powered running coach app, launched in 2021 by founders Dom Maskell and Ben Parker, offering bespoke training plans—from 5K to ultra‑marathon—across iOS and Android.
It soared in popularity thanks to its world-class coaching, device syncing, and strength/mobility support, attracting “hundreds of thousands” of users across 180+ countries and nearly one million people using the mobile app every month. That level of success caught Strava’s attention, leading to an April 2025 acquisition.

Strava acquired Runna for an undisclosed sum back in May, with both subscriptions now available in a combined — and heavily discounted — bundle
“Coming off Strava’s accelerated innovation and unprecedented growth last year, it was the right time to look for complementary businesses that could create even greater value for our users,” said Michael Martin, chief executive officer of Strava. “Running is booming worldwide — nearly 1 billion runs were recorded on Strava in 2024. Runna’s mission to give every runner a personalized plan to achieve their goal is a perfect fit.”
In addition to Runna, Strava has also acquired popular cycling app The Breakaway earlier this year.
“Jordan Kobert, Kyle Yugawa and team have built a brilliant app for cyclists who want to improve and achieve their cycling targets, making it a perfect fit for the Strava subscription,” said Martin. Both of these acquisitions signal Strava’s continued investment in its global community of active users.
