Fox News reports the earlier today, the FBI served grand jury subpoenas on the offices of Tim Walz, Keith Ellison, and Jacob Frey. The subpoenas are said to request “records and communications.”
The Department of Justice is investigating an “alleged conspiracy to coerce or obstruct federal law enforcement during ongoing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minnesota.”
U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News the duo’s anti-ICE rhetoric was teetering on a federal crime.
“When the governor or the mayor threaten our officers, when the mayor suggests that he’s encouraging citizens to call 911 when they see ICE officers, that is very close to a federal crime,” Blanche said.
I don’t know whether criminal charges will be brought against officials like Walz and Frey. Probably not, I suspect. But any charges that might be brought against Walz and Frey for inciting violation of federal law will be 1,000 times stronger than the criminal charges that the Democrats brought against President Trump.
