A tragic incident on the Thameslink railway this morning has caused major disruption for commuters, after a person was hit by a train between St Albans City and Luton. Emergency services are currently on site, and all lines between the two stations were blocked for an extended period as authorities responded.
While some services are now resuming, significant delays and cancellations are still impacting the network, with no trains stopping at Luton Airport Parkway until further notice.
Thameslink has issued a series of updates on social media, advising passengers to travel later in the day if possible, or seek alternative routes. For those already travelling, passengers are being told to remain onboard their trains and wait for further information, as crews work to resolve the situation safely.
The rail operator is offering ticket acceptance on several alternative services, including London Northwestern, Great Northern, and the London Underground, to help stranded commuters complete their journeys.
The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, has also led Thameslink to update its online service status pages and live departure boards in real time, offering guidance on delays and re-routing. The company is encouraging passengers to use Transport for London’s journey planner and Thameslink’s own alternative route maps to find the best travel options during the disruption.
Thameslink has expressed its condolences, writing that it is with “great sadness” that they report the incident. The identity of the person involved has not been released, and no further details about the circumstances have been made public at this time.
