ChicagoFeaturedIllegal Immigration

The Chicago Republic | Power Line

An editorial from the Washington Examiner,

Chicago has no sovereign right to its own immigration policy.

It’s a principle that could be applied beyond the neo-confederates of the Windy City to other cities, such as Los Angeles, and to states such as California and Illinois.

You should read the whole thing. Rather than quote the whole thing, I’ll just post two highlights,

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed this week that only 8,400 illegal immigrants were arrested trying to cross the southern border in September, and none were released. When the Democrats were in power, 9,000 crossed every day, and most were released into the country to go wherever they wanted.

“States rights,”

But, contrary to the governor’s assertion, Illinois is not a sovereign state. If Trump believes local law enforcement policies endanger federal agents and that a National Guard presence would help protect them, he has the authority to deploy them, whether Pritzker likes it or not.

As it turns out, the first casualty in the Battle for Chicago is…soccer? From USA Today,

Argentina-Puerto Rico soccer friendly match moved due to immigration crackdown in Chicago.

They report,

The friendly match between Argentina and Puerto Rico, originally scheduled for next week in Chicago, has been relocated to Florida. This significant change is due to an anticipated immigration crackdown in the city, according to The Associated Press.

I’m genuinely baffled. Do they think the immigration crackdown will take place at Soldier Field during the game?

As noted, the soccer exhibition game has been moved to Florida,

The match between Argentina and Puerto Rico, originally scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13, at Soldier Field in Chicago, has been moved to Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

If the idea was to send a political message, moving a soccer game from Illinois to Florida sends mixed signals. Perhaps the organizers were just opting for warmer weather.
