The Europeans Are Coming—Numerous Leaders Headed to D.C. Monday for Crucial Zelensky WH Meeting – RedState

All eyes will be on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s scheduled visit to the White House on Monday following Trump’s Alaska summit with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

But Zelensky won’t be lonely—a host of European leaders are now coming to tag along. Here’s who has been announced so far:

Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz: Merz’s office said he will discuss the status of the peace efforts in Ukraine with the other attendees, and highlight Germany’s interest in a rapid peace agreement.

French President Emmanuel Macron: The Elysee Palace said Macron will “continue the work of coordination between Europeans and the United States with the aim of achieving a just and lasting peace that preserves Ukraine’s vital interests and the security of Europe.”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: Meloni will also be travelling to Washington with her European counterparts for the talks.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: Von der Leyen confirmed in a post on X that she will attend the talks at the request of Zelensky.

Finland President Alexander Stubb: Stubb’s office said he will “participate in a meeting on peace in Ukraine,” also in a post on X.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: The NATO chief will join Zelensky and European leaders for the talks with Trump.

National Security Analyst: Trump ‘Got What He Needed’ in Alaska

Secretary of State Marco Rubio vehemently denied Sunday that the Euros are coming to hold Zelensky’s hand after his White House meeting in February went south, and Vice President JD Vance and Trump basically kicked him out of the Oval Office:

All parties involved presumably hope these meetings go a lot better than that earlier one.

There’s much at stake as President Trump has been working overtime to put an end to the devastating Russo-Ukrainian war.

Putin reportedly wants to keep the key eastern Ukrainian Donbas region, while Ukraine contends that the land protects them from future invasion and also believes that giving it to the Russian strongman rewards his aggression.

RedState’s Bonchie reminded us of a past moment:

Monday is going to be a historical day—one way or the other. Trump has a lot on his plate; he has to balance the demands of a bunch of dramatic players: the Europeans, Putin, Zelensky, and his own supporters. That being said, he’s already made a lot more progress than many predicted.

RedState will continue to keep you updated as the Europeans come to town.
