Former First Lady Jill Biden pulled Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff aside in what has been described as a “tense” exchange, demanding to know if the couple were loyal to them just weeks before Joe Biden dropped out of the election. The exchange was so fraught with tension that Emhoff left with a “grim” expression on his face.
This, according to newly revealed excerpts from Harris’s presidential campaign memoir, “107 Days.”
The former Vice President recalled how, during a meeting in early July between the two couples, Emhoff was whisked away to a separate room to meet with Mrs. Biden. Kamala claims that Dr. Jill quickly morphed into Mrs. Hyde when she presented the Second Gentleman with a demand to know if they were loyal to her husband’s campaign or not.
“She seemed tense, even angry. ‘What’s going on?’ she demanded. ‘Are you supporting us?’ Of course, Doug said. Of course, we are supporting you,” one passage obtained by The Guardian reveals. “‘OK. That’s really important. We need to know that.’”
Emhoff was left shaken.
“When I joined him,” Harris said, “Doug was wearing a grim expression. Doug runs cool. He’s slow to anger. But I could tell something had gotten to him.”

It would be malpractice not to point out that some people in this world don’t, in fact, believe Doug Emhoff is “slow to anger.”
Emhoff would later, according to the book, prove his loyalty to the Bidens by completely trashing Jill for daring to suggest Kamala, in all her greatness, was not a good foot-soldier.
“Later, he unloaded. ‘They hide you away for four years, give you impossible, shit jobs, don’t correct the record when those tasks are mischaracterised, never fight back when you’re attacked, never praise your accomplishments, and now, finally, they want you out there on that balcony, standing right beside them. Now, finally, they know you are an asset, and they need you to reassure the American people.
“And still, they have to ask if we’re loyal?”
Doug, buddy, they hid Kamala away because, as bumbling and incompetent as Joe was, they were even more concerned about her bumbling incompetence dragging them down.
Harris, as my RedState colleague Bonchie reports, believes so thoroughly in her own awesomeness that she claims a speech she once delivered was so good, so like the soaring oratory of a Lincoln or maybe even an Obama, that they had to reprimand her for making Biden look bad.
“I was castigated for, apparently, delivering it too well. Their thinking was zero-sum: If she’s shining, he’s dimmed. None of them grasped that if I did well, he did well,” she said, not grasping that she rarely did well.
All of that is contradictory to the fact that Joe Biden had repeatedly insisted Kamala Harris refuse to separate herself from his presidency – “no daylight” was the phrase.
This speaks to the character of Harris and Emhoff, who, despite a well-documented history of tensions with the Bidens, were still apparently trying to sell them on their loyalty.
Jill Biden wasn’t a fan of selecting Harris for the role of Vice President in the first place, carrying a grudge for her early presidential debate comments in which she portrayed Joe as racist over his opposition to federal busing policy.
Those tensions were still evident in a post-2024 election meeting between Kamala and the Bidens at the Kennedy Center, where Jill played the role of Ice Queen as she refused any interaction with the former Veep.
The Daily Mail reports that Kamala’s new book thanks Joe Biden for his support in the acknowledgment section but makes no mention of Jill. Which doesn’t seem very loyal.
