The new sheriff in town

President Trump submitted the nomination of my long-time friend Daniel Rosen to serve as United States Attorney for Minnesota this past spring. The Senate finally confirmed Danny’s nomination last week. President Trump signed his commission this past Thursday. He was sworn in on Friday by our old Faegre partner and now Chief United States Minnesota District Judge Patrick Schiltz.

Danny takes the reins from Joe Thompson, who has done an outstanding job as Acting United States Attorney in addition to his other responsibilities in prosecuting Minnesota’s nation-leading fraud cases. To the extent that anyone is paying attention, Tim Walz and his Democrat colleagues have turned Minnesota into a national spectacle.

We have covered Joe’s prosecution of the fraud cases and his leadership of the office in intense detail. I have come to admire him greatly. He is an invaluable public servant.

Danny tells me that on Friday his first order of business was asking Joe to serve as First Assistant United States Attorney and that Joe has agreed to do so. As First Assistant, he is the second-in-command with respect to both administrative and litigation duties.

Danny also tells me that he has asked Joe to continue his aggressive pursuit of the fraud cases. Nothing in that regard should change.

News of Danny’s appointment of Joe and news of Danny’s assurance that Joe has been asked to continue his aggressive leadership in the pursuit of Minnesota’s massive multiplying fraud cases are exclusive to Power Line. I am pleased to be able to report these developments here first on the assumption that other media outlets in town may be interested, which they should be.
