“Army anniversary parade on Trump’s birthday could cost up to $45 million,” reports CBS News this evening. $45 million? Let’s call the whole thing off.
In all seriousness, from what I can pick up of DOGE’s work in our nation’s capital of late, the Federal government is incapable of tracking dollar amounts that tiny. CBS continues,
A military parade to mark the Army’s anniversary next month — coinciding with President Trump’s birthday — is estimated to cost between $25 million and $45 million, an Army spokesperson told CBS News. The price estimate encompasses the whole festival, including the events leading up to the parade.
So, perhaps as little as $25 million. It will be held in Washington, D.C., on June 14, flag day, the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, originally the Continental Army. That the date is also Trump’s birthday seems more coincidence than sinister.
Democrats have finally discovered some government spending they oppose,
The plans have drawn some criticism from Democrats. Earlier this month, Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee called the plan wasteful.
As it happened, I was at the last such event as a spectator, one of 200,000 in attendance. It was billed as the National Victory Celebration, it was held June 8, 1991, shortly after the conclusion of Gulf War I. The B-52 flyover is a sight (and sound) I will never forget.
CBS News has a retrospective report here. The four-minute CBS report from the 1991 event is worth watching, if for nothing else, the time-capsule value of the video.
CBS quotes a Washington Post price estimate for the 1991 effort at $8 million. Inflation, man.
God Bless America!
