This Should Be a Crime

A group from Code Pink harassed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a Washington restaurant, and posted video of it because they are proud of their actions:

This is what I called “liberal privilege” in a recent interview. Liberals do things all the time that the rest of us, out of common decency, would never do. They seriously believe that they have the right to harass people with whom they disagree in public places, to parade around their homes with signs, and so on.

These Code Pinksters would no doubt say that they were merely exercising their First Amendment rights. And, of course, they have the right to make stupid arguments and misrepresent facts in a wide variety of ways. But the right of free speech has always been subject to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions. Thus, you have the right to say that Democrats are morons. But you do not have the right to drive through a residential neighborhood at 2 a.m. with a loudspeaker, blaring “Democrats are morons.” Or anything else.

Harassing people in public places should be, at the very least, disturbing the peace. There is no constitutional privilege that applies. If these Pinkos spent just one week in a D.C. jail, such incidents would immediately stop.
