Predictably, Democrats and their mainstream media allies have thrown everything they can at the Trump administration in response to President Trump’s crackdown on crime and disorder in our nation’s capital, which he’s done by way of federalizing law enforcement.
One laughably absurd talking point, for example, has been to proclaim that crime is not that bad in Washington, D.C. To try and make their argument, they’ve used disputed “crime stats” that are now the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice due to credible allegations that the numbers were massaged to make crime seem like less of an issue than it actually is.
Another point not in Trump’s critics’ favor is the number of people who have lined up on social media to detail their experience of either being victimized or knowing a family member, friend, or colleague who has been. The D.C. Police Union has also dropped some inconvenient facts into the discussion on the dire nature of the situation, further backing critics into a corner and making them look even more foolish and out of touch.

A second talking point that is being circulated among Democrats and the MSM involves crime issues in red states, with the question being asked, “Well, if we’re going to send the National Guard into D.C., why not these red states, too?” Case in point:

Apparently setting aside (or ignoring) the fact that most, if not all, of the cities in those red states that have the biggest crime problems are run by Democrats, CNN “Inside Politics” anchor Dana Bash tried this line of argument on Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) on Wednesday regarding Democrat-run Memphis, TN.
Suffice it to say that he was having none of it:
Bash: One of the most well-known cities in your state, Memphis, has a pretty high crime rate, homicide, robbery. We’re putting on the screen some of the numbers there. Are you OK with your state’s National Guard resources being used to deter crime here in Washington, and why not in your home state?
Burchett: Yes, ma’am, I am. Washington, D.C., of course, is a creation of the Congress, and I believe it is within the president’s constitutional purview, and you know, lawlessness, outbreaks. There’s a lot of political wherewithal in Memphis, Tennessee. It has a, really a history of, you know, the political, I guess you, and I won’t say political gangs, but political families have run that town, and frankly, they’ve run it into the ground, and some of the …
Bash: So, why not send National Guard troops there? It’s a red state.
Burchett: It’s not a federal, it’s not federally created environment. Washington, D.C., is a federally created environment. It is our nation’s capital.

To put it bluntly, such dumb talking points by the left/corporate press need to be buried deep down, never to surface again. In an ideal world, that would happen. But it’s not an ideal world we’re living in.
Thankfully, Burchett is a pretty patient yet firm southern gent who is content with letting The Usual Suspects embarrassingly box themselves into a corner before laying reality checks on them and nuking their arguments in the process.
