As we have recorded over the last several years, the State of Minnesota has been defrauded out of billions of dollars by criminals taking advantage of multiple federal/state welfare programs. The Tim Walz administration did nothing to prevent the frauds, and nothing to investigate or prosecute them. On the contrary, the Walz administration, if anything, enabled the fraudsters. It was the FBI that investigated the crimes, and the United States Attorney’s Office, in the person of Joe Thompson and his staff, that has prosecuted the criminals.
The fraud scandals exploded to the point that national Democrats told Walz he needed to withdraw from the race for governor, which he did yesterday. In announcing his withdrawal, he delivered a speech that consisted mostly of attacks on President Trump and the Republican Party, as though they were somehow responsible for his downfall.
Today he gave a press conference, in the course of which he attacked Joe Thompson, claiming that Thompson “would have been let go by any other administration” because he was “speculating” “with no factual information” and thus defaming Walz. It was one of the most bizarre outbursts I have ever seen:
Far from speculating without any factual information, Joe Thompson has relied on the FBI’s investigation to bring criminal charges which he has proved in court. So far, Thompson has secured no fewer than 57 criminal convictions of fraudsters who would still be stealing money if it were up to Tim Walz.
And how has Thompson defamed Walz? I think Walz is referring to Thompson’s statement in a press conference a few weeks ago that half or more of the $18 billion spent on Medicaid-related programs in Minnesota over the last several years represented fraud. I guess Walz must consider himself to be responsible for that; hence the purported defamation. But those charges, too, will be proved in court.
Tim Walz is one of the most repellent figures in our public life. It will be good to see him gone from the scene. I don’t think it is likely, but it would be delightful if the FBI’s investigation turns up evidence that would warrant criminal charges against Walz, for example by retaliating against state employees who tried to stop the ongoing frauds.
UPDATE: U.S. Attorney Dan Rosen responded to Walz’s smear of his top lieutenant:
Gov. Walz’s comments about First Assistant US Attorney Thompson constitute a contemptible attack on a federal prosecutor and a betrayal of the governor’s oath of office. Joe Thompson is an outstanding public servant who has my full confidence and that of the people of Minnesota.
MORE: This is another rant from Walz’s press conference today. It is not directly related to his attack on the U.S. Attorney’s Office, but illustrates how demented Walz has become:
‘OVER MY DEAD BODY’: Tim Walz shuts down calls for him to resign amid mounting fraud allegations:

Walz suffers from delusions of grandeur, a persecution complex, and a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Those aren’t his only (or worst) faults, but they will do for now.
