True story behind Prince Harry’s relationship with King Charles as update issued | Royal | News

Prince Harry has recently requested a review of his security arrangements in the UK, with one expert suggesting that this shows the current state of his relationship with King Charles. Harry, 41, wrote privately to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, requesting a full security risk assessment.

Although he has made numerous solo visits to his home country, Harry has previously voiced that he felt unsafe visiting the UK with Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. A royal source has said: “This review could be a reflection of improved relations between the monarch and his son“. They also added that the King “is not directly involved in decisions about [Harry’s] security”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the possibility that their relationship is “thawing”, the insider added: “There are representatives of the Royal Household on Ravec alongside police and Home Office officials.

“So it’s possible that the courtiers on the committee have influenced the decision to order a review after the slight thawing of relations between the King and Harry”.

Harry last saw his father during a visit to the UK in September 2025. The royal met the King at Clarence House, their first face-to-face meeting for 19 months.

The pair met for “private tea”, with the meeting lasting for under an hour.

During a BBC interview, which came shortly after he lost the court appeal to have his round-the-clock security restored earlier this year, the father-of-two claimed “interference” by the Royal Household influenced the 2020 decision.

When he was asked what aspects of his current arrangements made him feel unsafe, Harry replied: “Everything.”

The new protection arrangement could allow not only Harry to spend more time in the UK, but could also mean that Meghan and their children could be set to join him on future visits.
