President Trump on Sunday accused Colombian President Gustavo Petro of being an “illegal drug leader” who encourages massive drug production for the United States market. He promptly announced cutting all subsidies and payments to the South American country.
Trump, in a clear sign that his administration will engage in its war on drugs against any nations harboring narco-terrorists or promoting the exportation of fentanyl and other narcotics, also warned Petro to shut down the “killing fields” throughout Colombia that are producing those drugs.
“President Gustavo Petro, of Colombia, is an illegal drug leader strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs, in big and small fields, all over Colombia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He referred to the drug trade as “the biggest business in Colombia” and accused Petro of doing “nothing to stop it.” This, despite “large-scale payments and subsidies from the USA that are nothing more than a long-term rip-off of America.”
“AS OF TODAY, THESE PAYMENTS, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PAYMENT, OR SUBSIDIES, WILL NO LONGER BE MADE TO COLUMBIA,” he continued.

Trump then escalated the warnings to Petro, demanding he shut down the fields before the United States steps in to do it for him. In a manner he might not like.
“The purpose of this drug production is the sale of massive amounts of product into the United States, causing death, destruction, and havoc,” the President wrote.
“Petro, a low-rated and very unpopular leader, with a fresh mouth toward America, better close up these killing fields immediately, or the United States will close them up for him, and it won’t be done nicely.”
Trump’s warning comes after Petro accused the U.S. of committing “murder” following a strike carried out on a boat in Colombian territorial waters back in September.
“US government officials have committed a murder and violated our sovereignty in territorial waters,” he wrote on X. “Fisherman Alejandro Carranza had no ties to the drug trade, and his daily activity was fishing.”
Petro alleged that the boat in question “had its distress signal up due to an engine failure” as he demanded “explanations from the US government.”

President Trump on Thursday also announced that a “drug-carrying submarine” had been destroyed somewhere in the Caribbean, with two people being killed. One survivor of the defensive strike was repatriated to Colombia.
Trump said military intelligence had confirmed the submarine was being used by narco-traffickers and “loaded up with mostly fentanyl, and other illegal narcotics.”
“At least 25,000 Americans would die if I allowed this submarine to come ashore. The two surviving terrorists are being returned to their Countries of origin, Ecuador and Colombia, for detention and prosecution,” he reported.
“Under my watch, the United States of America will not tolerate narcoterrorists trafficking illegal drugs, by land or by sea.”

The President earlier this week ramped up threats against Venezuela for their drug-running efforts as well. He told reporters that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has “offered everything” to persuade him to back off amid escalating American strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats off his nation’s coast.
“He has offered everything. He’s offered everything. You’re right. You know why?” Trump replied. “Because he doesn’t want to f*** around with the United States.”
Six vaporized vessels (that we know of) with only two survivors thus far seem to indicate Trump is very serious about following through. Will Petro heed the warnings?
