Trump Keeps Winning – How Much Longer Can Jeffries Hold on As Dems Rack Up Losses? – RedState

Under President Trump, Democrats are lost. There’s no other way to put it. They’re used to the historical GOP that regularly used to shoot itself in the foot, back-bite, and lose. Trump has single-handedly changed that. On Thursday, the Republican-led Congress pushed through the biggest win of Trump’s second term—the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This early victory will propel Trump’s agenda forward at a massive rate—codifying tax cuts, closing the border, ramping up deportations, and clearing the way for economic growth. As Trump continues to bring in dominant wins for Republicans, leaders in the Democrat party are left spinning.

With the “Dems in disarray” narrative continuing to percolate, I’m beginning to wonder how much more House Leader Hakeem Jeffries has left in the tank. In the fight against the BBB, “Temu Obama” went to the House floor to waste a lot of speaking time before the bill’s final passage—which it did! The stunt left one Democrat operative and co-host of 2Ways’ “The Morning Meeting,” Dan Turrentine, disgusted.

Turrentine wrote on X:

If @RepJeffries floor speech delaying antics pleases the base, who demand we “fight” everything, then clearly we have further to fall. That was utterly pointless politically and substantively. Total beltway nonsense. Can we please have strategies and tactics that try to move the public or impact the debate?

RedState has covered the speech extensively:

Hilarious: The Inspiring Effect Hakeem Jeffries Had As He Gave Final Rant on the Floor

After Speaker Pelosi’s reign, political pundits wondered if Jeffries had the chops to properly follow in her footsteps. During an interview for Politico in May of this year, former Pelosi staffer, Ashley Etienne, didn’t mince words in her disappointment of Jeffries:

While Etienne said she has “a tremendous amount of respect” for Jeffries, she gave voice to concerns I’ve heard from some Democrats privately: that the New York Democrat hasn’t shown enough backbone as a leader, and that his organizational skills are deficient at a time when strong, creative leadership is badly needed… Etienne believes Jeffries isn’t doing enough to wire the Democratic infrastructure with an anti-Trump message. He’s not coordinating enough with outside groups and elected officials around the country, she said, or deploying his moderates to argue that the party needs to heed the center.

Right after the election, Axios released an article titled, “The 2024 blame game finally comes for Hakeem Jeffries.” In the article left wing ideologue and Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) stated, “I don’t think anybody ever should take or can take their leadership for granted.” Remember, this questioning of Jeffries leadership was well before Trump racked up these Republican wins.

At the end of April, CNN released polling that shows Democrat leaders are underwater with their own voters:

The top two Hill Democrats — House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — are also underwater in favorability (20% favorable to 27% unfavorable for Jeffries… While Republican-aligned adults have grown more positive toward Johnson and Thune since January, Democrats and Democratic leaners have shifted more negative toward their own leaders. Jeffries’ favorability rating with that group slipped from net positive by 37 points to net positive by 31 points, with all of the change coming on the unfavorable side.

Wow, those are dangerously low numbers for “Dollar Store Obama.” Jeffries is recently down six points to a net positive 31 percent with his own voters. I’ll be tracking to see if these dip even further after the OBBB passed the House, and his own party pushes back on his embarrassing speech. I understand the Democrats are currently in the minority, which makes it hard to get wins when the opposing party is so unified. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Democrat leaders pull a Bob Iger and bring back Nancy Pelosi.

How much longer can Jeffries hold on? His stunts aren’t working and his side won’t be getting any legitimate wins any time soon. I’m not sad about it.
