Muslims have been murdering Christians in Nigeria for a long time, something like 125,000 since 2009. Their slow-motion genocide has recently accelerated, as Muslims have killed more than 7,000 Christians. There have been no consequences, with most mainline Christian (or “Christian”) denominations in the U.S. failing even to register concern. But President Trump has seen enough:
I don’t expect we will see the 82nd Airborne deployed to Nigeria, but a pause in foreign aid payments could well be in the offing. Nigeria’s government had this response, after being put on the “Countries of Particular Concern”–i.e., regarding religious freedom–list:
“The Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, or religion,” the Nigerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday. “Like America, Nigeria has no option but to celebrate the diversity that is our greatest strength.”
I can think of some better options, for Nigeria as for the United States, and I interpret that statement as deliberately mocking. Maybe the 82nd Airborne isn’t such a bad idea, after all.
