Trump Says Democrats Made ‘One Mistake’ With Schumer Shutdown

President Donald Trump reflected on the “one mistake” he said Democrats made with the Schumer Shutdown when they failed to realize that closing the government would equal cutting their “giveaway” programs Republicans don’t want.

In clips that aired Friday from Trump’s interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo, President Trump was asked about the ongoing closure of the government by the Democrats and if he thought that this weekend’s “No Kings” rally planned by leftists in Washington, D.C., and across the country was the reason Democrats had refused to reopen the government.

Trump shook his head no and explained that the shutdown was happening because Schumer is trying to hang on to his failing political career.

“Chuck is at the end of the line,” Trump said. “He’s being beaten by everybody that they poll against him. And you know what he did is he did the right thing a couple of years ago on something like this. And he got hurt by his party. “

“I don’t think it matters to him,” he added. “He’s just so dead that he will do anything. I think they could just stay out forever, to be honest with you.”

“I mean, they made one mistake,” Trump continued. “They didn’t realize that gives me the right to cut programs that Republicans never wanted. You know, giveaways, welfare programs, etc, and we’re cutting them permanently. We’re cutting a $20B project that Schumer fought for 15 years to get.”

As RedState readers know, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the Democrats have refused to open the government because Republicans won’t give billions to fund healthcare for illegal aliens.

The White House recently pointed out what the shutdown is all about:

Democrats are demanding that these reforms be repealed as a condition of keeping the government open for four weeks. This would result in the federal government spending nearly $200 billion on healthcare for illegal immigrants and non-citizens over the next decade—nearly enough to fund the entire Children’s Health Insurance Program over the same period—all while repealing reforms that strengthen care for the most vulnerable Americans.

On Friday, the Democrats voted an 11th time to keep the government closed. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) pointed out that the Democrat Party even blocked pay for troops, Border Patrol, TSA agents, air traffic controllers, and the rest of our federal workforce by rejecting a recent standalone bill that would’ve done that.

Like many have said, the Schumer Shutdown will end when Chuck stands up to the radicals in his party.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
