Trump Seeks ‘Peace Agreement’ After Putin Summit; Zelensky Headed Back To White House

Early Saturday morning, President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will head to the White House on Monday for continued peace talks.

Trump on Friday met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. Progress was made, the president said, but there is still no deal for peace between Russia and Ukraine.

“A great and very successful day in Alaska! The meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well, as did a late night phone call with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and various European Leaders, including the highly respected Secretary General of NATO,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “President Zelenskyy will be coming to D.C., the Oval Office, on Monday afternoon. If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin.”

The coming meeting will mark the first time Zelensky will be back at the White House since a February meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office, which became heated and ended abruptly.

Zelensky has already signaled his support for the upcoming meeting, and a potential future meeting with Trump and Putin.

“President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation,” Zelensky said. “On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation.”

“We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia,” the Ukrainian leader added. “Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.”

Trump also said on social media that he’s looking to reach a peace agreement to end the war, not merely a ceasefire.

“It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up,” he wrote. “Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved.”

After his meeting with Putin, Trump said on Friday that there’s no peace deal yet, but added that the pair “did make a lot of progress.”
