Trump, Witkoff, Hegseth Talk the Latest on Iran in Gaggle on Air Force One – RedState

It’s been a busy weekend already for America’s commander in chief. As RedState wrote earlier on Saturday, President Trump took part in an event for the ‘Shield of the Americas’ in Miami, then honored our fallen from the mission against Iran during a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover AFB, Maryland.

On Air Force One, President Trump spoke in a gaggle about a variety of topics, including the dignified transfer ceremony, and the latest update on the U.S. miltiary’s Iran mission. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and War Secretary Pete Hegseth also answered questions on Iran:

Trump continued about Iran:

He also talked about his emotional meeting with Gold Star parents on the tarmac:

“I’ve very proud of the people. The parents were so proud of their boy, as they called him, ‘my boy.’ In one case. a young lady…Many of them are miliary parents, as you know, but it’s always a very sad thing,” he said.

Pres. Trump addressed claims that Russia is providing support for Iran:

He repeated his demand for Iran’s leadership to surrender without conditions:

The president wrote about it earlier on his Truth Social account:

My colleague Bonchie shared how Iran’s president made an apology to the places they bombed on Saturday morning.

Iran’s foreign minister claimed in an X post that the U.S. struck Iranian infrastructure, and Pres. Trump responded to the allegation:

“They are among the most evil people ever on Earth. They cut babies’ heads off. They chop women in half… I know nothing about a desalinization plant other than to say if they’re complaining about a desalinization plant, we complain about the fact that they shouldn’t be chopping babies’ heads off.”

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff was asked about the remaining possibility of a nuclear deal with Iran, and he reminded everyone how the first round went:

He said that “the president has proved” the U.S. has maximum negotiating leverage at this point, in response to a media question. Pres. Trump interjected that the U.S. “is not looking to settle. They’re looking to settle.”

A reporter asked Witkoff if he’s communicated to the Russians not to send targeting information and other assistance to Iran. “I strongly said that,” he answered. When pressed on whether he believes that is happening, he said, “I hope they’re not.”

War Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke about the “leverage” the U.S. has in the Iran effort: “With every passing day, we have more and more leverage because we have more and more capabilities for hitting them harder and harder, and they have less of an ability to defend themselves. So, we’re pressing the offensive every single day, creating all the leverage the president needs for the outcome he wants.”

President Trump said they’re being “decimated,” and that he considered the Iranian president’s apology to other Gulf states a kind of “surrender.”
