Several people have been injured after a lorry drove into a crowd of anti-Iran demonstrators in Los Angeles, sparking scenes of panic and chaos, reports GB News.
A U-Haul truck was filmed moving through a group of protesters, with footage showing people scattering as the vehicle pushed forward. Witnesses said the driver accelerated toward demonstrators waving Iranian flags and appeared to try to force his way through the protest.
The truck was displaying a large banner taped to its side that read: “No Shah, No Regime. USA: Don’t Repeat 1953. No Mullah.”
Incident unfolds in daylight
The incident took place in broad daylight on Veteran Avenue in the Westwood area, where hundreds had gathered to protest against Iran’s Islamic Republic.
One witness, Susie Shoshana, recorded the incident on her phone as it unfolded.
“Went to a party on Veteran Avenue, came out and there’s the Iran protest march right in front of the building,” Ms Shoshana said.
“Caught on video this a*****e ramming his U-Haul through the protest.”
Vehicle surrounded by protesters
The truck eventually came to a halt and was quickly surrounded by protesters. Some were seen smashing the vehicle’s windows as tensions escalated.
Further footage shows the driver being pulled from the lorry by police officers, while bystanders could be heard screaming nearby.
As officers escorted the suspect away, several protesters attempted to punch him and strike him with flagpoles, forcing police to push the crowd back to regain control of the scene.
The Los Angeles Fire Department has confirmed that three people were injured after being struck by the truck.
