A raging vehicle fire unleashed chaos on the M4 on Thursday and overnight, with the Traffic England website revealing that lanes are not expected to reopen until the early hours of Friday morning.
The incident, which unfolded on the M4 westbound entry slip at junction 6, forced the closure of two lanes, causing traffic to grind to a halt.
It left drivers frustrated and stuck in lengthy tailbacks, with many facing the prospect of a prolonged journey as the cleanup operation continues into the night.
However, within the last hour, National Highways said: “The M4 westbound has now re-opened between J7 Slough and J8/9 Maidenhead.
“Lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) remain closed for emergency barrier repairs following yesterdays vehicle fire.”
