In August 2024 the Minneapolis Star Tribune renamed itself the Minnesota Star Tribune. It now fancies itself a statewide organ rather than the mouthpiece of the Twin Cities left. It nevertheless toes the party line of whatever the left is touting in Hennepin County (Minneapolis and inner ring suburbs) and across the river at the state capitol in St. Paul.
Let us take as an example this past weekend’s headline reflecting the Star Tribune’s support of Governor Walz’s utterly irrelevant response to the Annunciation Church shooting: “Scores rally outside for assault weapons ban.” Subhead: “One month after the Annunciation shooting, rallygoers demanded Gov. Tim Walz to convene a special session to ban assault weapons.”
In other words, the crowd turned out at the state capitol to support the current Walz push for gun control, but the turnout was pitiful. It’s almost funny. I credit the Star Tribune with publishing the photo by Jaida Grey Eagle to accompany the story.
The text of the story estimates the size of the crowd at “more than 100.” I think four score would be more like it, but we don’t want to confuse the readers with an allusion that is as irrelevant as the Walz/DFL/MSM gun control shtick. If it weren’t for Gettysburg Address, however, we would have no idea how far the Star Tribune had to stretch to gin up such a laughable headline.
