(LifeSiteNews) — The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has complied with President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban men from women’s sports.
In its updated “Athlete Safety Policy,” the committee wrote: “The USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with oversight responsibilities, e.g., IOC, IPC, NGBs, to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act.”
Executive Order 14201, otherwise known as the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” order, was signed by President Donald Trump on February 5.
The U.S. Olympic Committee CEO, Sarah Hirshland, and its president, Gene Sykes, acknowledge the change in a letter addressed to the Team USA community. NBC News cites the letter as follows: “As a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations.”
“The guidance we’ve received aligns with the Ted Stevens Act, reinforcing our mandated responsibility to promote athlete safety and competitive fairness,” the letter continues.
The updated policy “emphasizes the importance of ensuring fair and safe competition environments for women.” The letter also noted that all national governing bodies under the committee’s jurisdiction will be required to update their policies to align with the ban on “transgender” men in women’s sports.
Trump’s executive order banning gender-confused men from women’s sports has caused pushback from the Democrats, which will likely result in legal challenges.
The federal Department of Education ordered the California Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) to comply with federal law and prohibit males from competing against females in sports. However, both the CIF and the state Dept. of Education refused to comply with the law.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon subsequently announced that she would take legal action against California and its Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom.
