War In Iran?

Protests against the mullahs’ regime have broken out across Iran. At least seven demonstrators have been killed. The protests are driven in the short term by economic conditions, which are terrible, but mostly reflect long-festering discontent with Iran’s repressive government. Is the day when the mullahs will be overthrown finally at hand?

President Trump is trying to help:

Would the administration really take action if Iran’s rulers continue to suppress the protests? I suppose it depends on what Trump means by “locked and loaded” and “come to their rescue.” No doubt diplomatic and economic measures are possible, to the extent there are any left that haven’t already been implemented. And possibly a bombing of some sort could be in the cards, perhaps directed at what the administration says is a renewed nuclear effort. But there is no way American troops will get involved. Newly-minted liberal Marjorie Taylor Greene’s fears in that regard are, one assumes, overwrought.

Still, it’s a thought. Iran has been the primary evil-doer in the Middle East for many years. The benefits of an Iran freed from the mullahs’ grasp would be incalculable. He won’t do it, but one can see why Trump might be tempted to forcibly terminate the Islamic theocracy, once and for all.
